The Midstatesmen Chorus, a performing unit of the Pioneer District of the Barbershop Harmony Society, has a reputation for good music, a dash of showmanship, and a large dose of family fun. The chorus produces a family oriented show, always with a little humor and great singing. The show, written and produced by the many talented members of the chapter, always includes outstanding guest quartets and ensembles showcasing a Capella music, especially barbershop music.
Once each year the chorus participates in the chorus competition at the Pioneer District Convention. This allows the chorus to get feedback from an excellent  judging program. This feedback helps the chorus and chapter to sharpen their musical and performance skills.
Several years ago, in order to promote vocal music in area schools, the Midstatesmen Chorus invited area choirs to participate in a joint concert. The program is held in the Doig Chapel at Masonic Pathways. In 2008 over 200 area students joined the Midstatesmen for this program. Schools involved included Alma High School, Ithaca High School, Breckenridge High School and St. Louis 4th and 5th grades.
The chorus members are truly "Midstatesmen" as seven different mid-Michigan counties are represented. (Gratiot, Midland, Montcalm, Roscommon, Isabella, Clare and Saginaw Counties) They meet each Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:30 P.M. in the Alma Middle School choir room. Men who enjoy singing are welcome to come by any Tuesday to get an earful of Barbershop harmony and some fun as well.
For more Information about the chorus or to book the chorus for your show or activity call Ken Best at 989-620-5653.
Gratiot County's Midstatesmen are members of the Pioneer District of the Barbershop Harmony Society.  The District consists of all of the Lower Peninsula and the Eastern Half of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Windsor & Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.
